1897.] PROCEEDINGS OF BOARD OF TRUSTEES. 207 M E E T I N G OF D E C E M B E R 14, 1897. The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois met in the 'Trustees' Room, Library Hall, in Urbana, Illinois, at 3 o'clock p. m., Tuesday, December 14, 1897. The members present -were Messrs. Armstrong. Bullard, McKay, McLean, Morrison, Raymond, and Smith and Mrs, Carriel; those absent were Governor Tanner and Messrs. Inglis and Pearce and Mrs. Flower. The minutes of the meetings of September 21, and October 1,1897, were approved, as presented by the Secretary. COMMUNICATION FROM PRESIDENT DRAPER. President Draper presented a request from Professor Townsend asking for a leave of absence without pay for the next school year, and the request was granted. A request from Professor Palmer that the Business Manager be given authority to contract, on a satisfactory bid, for chemical supplies, to be imported, not exceeding $1,500.00 in amount, was approved on motion of Mr. McLean. The resignation of Miss Mary L. Jones, to take effect at the close of the present term, was presented and, on motion of Mr. Morrison, was accepted. President Draper w^s given power to fill the place temporarily. \Ifc was recommended that Mr. Greo. W. Myers's title be made» Professor of Astronomy and Applied Mathematics. It was voted that the title should be Professor of Astronomy. Later in the session, on motion of Mr. Morrison, this action was reconsidered, and the title was made Professor of Astronomy and Applied Mathematics. BLUE-PRINT ROOM, ETC. , After some discussion of the following resolution action thereon was postponed until the next day: Besolved, That from and after January I, 1898, the University, take into its own hands the sale of examination books, theme paper, pencils, etc., and also management of the blue print, room in Engineering Hall, and that Mr. Charles T. Wilder be appointed to have charge of the matter for the period of six months, at $70.00 per month.
