On motion of Mr. McLean, the recommendations of the foregoing paper were approved with the exception of that regarding a day policeman, which was referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds with instructions to report as soon as possible.

STEAM HEATING DEPARTMENT.

Upon recommendation of Professor Breckenridge, Superintendent of Steam Heating, approved by President Draper, Mr. J. Morrow was employed for twelve months from September 1, 1896, at $75 a month; Mr. E. Justus for ten months from September 1, 1896, at $50 a month; Mr. Chas. Ewald for ten months from September 1, 1896, at $20 a month; and Mr. John Doughty at $50 a month from September 1,1896. Also the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds was authorized to employ from time to time such additional help as might be necessary to carry on the work of this department. For repairing the heating apparatus in the Chemical Laboratory $225 was appropriated, and the Superintendent of the Heating Department was instructed to have these repairs made. For the purchase of fittings and pipe $75 was appropriated. For installing electric lighting in- Engineering Hail and Machinery Building $200 was appropriated. The request of $150 for running expenses in steam engineering laboratory work was referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds. On motion of Mr. Morgan, the request of the Librarian, Mr. Bicknell, for an assistant, was indefinitely postponed. On recommendation of President Draper, $100 was appropriated for the purchase of apparatus in the Preparatory School. It was voted that the architects of Library Hall be directed to have designed and placed in the, vestibule of the building a suitable bronze tablet, and to have the names of the Board of Trustees, the President of the University, the architects, and the contractors inscribed thereon.

I ADVISORY BOARD FOR SCHOOL OF PHARMACY.

The following communication from the State Pharmaceutical Association was presented to the^Board by President Draper:

ILLINOIS PHARMACEUTICAL ASSOCIATION. SPRINGFIELD, July 29, 1896. Hon. A. S. Draper, President University of Illinois, Champaign, III., DEAR SIR: I have the honor to transmit to you the names of ten registered pharmacists selected (upon your suggestion) by the Illinois Pharmaceutical Association at their meeting in Springfield July 29, 1896, from which to select an Advisory Board of five members for the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Illinois.
