President Draper also presented a communication from Professor Davenport with regard to the Winter School of Agriculture, and also recommending the erection of a building for the shelter of carriages> wagons, and machinery on the farm. This communication was referred to the Farm Committee for report.

PAVING ROMINE STREET AND UNIVERSITY AVENUE.

President Draper presented an agreement in duplicate between John W. Stipes and the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois for paving the west half of Romine street from the north line of West Main street to University avenue, and the south half of University avenue from the west line of Romine street to the east line of Wright street, all in Urbana; and the President and Secretary of the Board were instructed to sign the contract on behalf of the University.

TELEPHONES.

President Draper presented communications from the telephone companies with regard to telephone service. On motion of Mr. Smith it was voted to accept, for two years, the proposition of the Champaign and Urbana Phoenix Telephone Company to furnish ten or more telephones for the term of one or more years at $12.00 each per year. A request that a scholarship be conferred upon Mr. Ralph O. Edwards, of Belleflower, McLean county, was denied by the following vote: Yeas—Messrs. McKay and Smith; nays—Messrs. Armstrong, Raymond, McLean, and Bullard, and Mrs. Flower and Mrs. Carriel. President Draper presented a recommendation from Professor Jones to the effect that the charge for Harmony be reduced from $10.00 to $6.00 a term, and it was so ordered. At the request of the President of the Board, Mr. McLean took the chair for the rest of the session.
