40 On motion of Trustee Pearman, the regular order of business was suspended, and it was resolved that the students recommended by the faculty (see Kegent's report) be granted degrees and certificates. The Board then adjourned to meet at 9 o'clock P. M.

EVENING SESSION.

The Board met according to adjournment. Present: Trustees Bennett, Eisenmayer, Follansbee, McLean^ Millard, Paden and Pearman. A communication from Mr. Klingenspor was read and referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds. On motion of Trustee Pearman, it was voted to hear Mr. Yance on the subject of boring for a gas well on the University farm, at 4:30 P. M., to-morrow. The resignation of Prof. F . W. Prentice was accepted, and the following resolution, introduced by Trustee McLean, was passed unanimously:

W H E R E A S , F r e d e r i c k W. P r e n t i c e , M. D., V. S., Professor of Veterinary Science in theIllinois I n d u s t r i a l University for t h e p a s t thirteen y e a r s , h a s seen fit to r e s i g n h i s position, for t h e purpose of entering into t h e practice of m e d i c i n e ; and, W H E B E A S , Professor P r e n t i c e h a s w o r k e d earnestly a n d faithfully in h i s d e p a r t m e n t , b r i n g i n g so successfully this i m p o r t a n t b r a n c h of education before t h e public a s to merit t h e c o m m e n d a t i o n of t h e B o a r d ; therefore, be it Resolved, Tha,t t h e B o a r d of T r u s t e e s , while r e g r e t t i n g t h e loss of Prof. F . W. P r e n t i c e t o o u r institution, heartily r e c o m m e n d h i m to t h e public generally a s a g e n t l e m a n of e m i n e n t ability, full worthy of t h e confidence of t h o s e with w h o m h e m a y h a v e professional relations. T h a t h e m a y succeed in h i s future career is t h e e a r n e s t desire of t h i s Board. Resolved, T h a t a copy of t h e s e resolutions b e t r a n s m i t t e d to Prof. F . W. P r e n t i c e .
