Charges and credits against and in favor of other d e p a r t m e n t s are not included. Settlem e n t would show an increase of b a l a n c e in favor of t h e farm. No charge is m a d e for e x t r a cost of experimental work, n o r for work done in p e r m a n e n t i m p r o v e m e n t . As a whole the season h a s been a favorable one. Excessive r a i n s d u r i n g J u l y s o m e w h a t injured t h e corn a n d c a u s e d considerable loss in h a r v e s t i n g the o a t s crop. Aside from t h i s Ave had good yields, good quality, a n d secured all crops in good condition. The live stock h a s done m o r e t h a n usually weil; condition is better and t h e a v e r a g e quality better t h a n it h a s ever b e e n before. I have placed a very m o d e r a t e valuation on the pure bred s t o c k . P r e s e n t prices for g r a i n and hay are unusually low. I n general t h e farms are at least in as good condition as a y e a r since. While not now connected or belonging to t h e farms proper, I m a y say t h a t t h e w o r k of d r a i n a g e on t h e "Griggs F a r m " w a s completed in t h e early spring. As the work progressed, it w a s found advisable to do mure d r a i n a g e t h a n was t h o u g h t n e c e s s a r y w h e n the p l a n s were first made. T h e old b o a r d fence on the east h a s been replaced by a wire fence, a n d a wire fence h a s b e e n built on a p a r t of the w e s t line (60 rods) with an a r r a n g e m e n t t h a t the h e d g e which ext e n d s over n e a r l y all the r e m a i n i n g 100 rods, shall be kept 1 in condition by the o w n e r s of t h e land adjoining on the west. The half of the fence on t h e south h a s been repaired. The farm w a s r e n t e d for the y e a r to F. G. J a q u e s for $460 a n d half t h e h a y on 40 a c r e s of the land. The h a y crop was either unusually light or much of it w a s lost by t h e r a i n s , a s the half crop is e s t i m a t e d at not over 15 t o n s . The good effects of t h e d r a i n a g e done h a s b e e n very readily seen. G. E. MORROW. v
