VMVERSITY OF ILLINOIS- WTLLARD A1RPOR I'. loc ed six miles southwest of the carr. 8f is utilized for research, education, commercial service, private flying and milita: service. Opened in 1945, i\ is one of the largest and finest educationally-owned airports in America. It covers more than if492 a es, has one concrete runway 6,500 feet long and two runways each 5,300 feet lone. The airport is equipped for all-weather and night fly g. Supporting facilities include a terminal building, control tower, hangars, shops and food service. Commercial service is provided by Ozark Air Lines on regular passenger schedules to Chicago, Davenport-Moline, Indianapolis, Peoria, Springfield, St. Lou. Washington, D. C. . New York and to connections. Vercoa commuter provides service to and from Decatur and Indianapolis. The Stall Air Transportation Service provides company transportation for members of the University staff and guests.

COXTIXVIXG EDUCATION IN MUSIC, established in 1946, is a section of the Office of Continuing Education and Public Service which cooperates in its programming with the School of Music and University Bands, extending the services of the University into the stal and nation. The unit works closely with all state and national music organizations. Activi;es range from services to research, with emphasis on instructional programs. They include inservice and continuing education for teachers of music; development of community music programs and centers; workshops and conferences; off-campus performances throughout the state, nation and world by School of Music student performing organizations; ublication of materials which serve as aids to teachers, and educational research and exploratory programs in music. The program also staffs and develops courses in music for the extramural section. During the summer, the office is in charge of the Illinois Summer Youth Music camp, an instructional program for young gifted musicians, involving approximately 1,600 junior and senior high school students in 20 two-week camps. Head is Dale Kimpton. CONTLNl IXG EDUCATION IN VISUAL ARTS is a liaison unit in the art area for the Ofiicc of Continuing Education and Public Service. The unit obtains staff for extramural classes and staffs and develops programs on art offered through conferences and institutes. It is responsible for registration, materials and supplies for the Saturday morning program, Creative Arts for Children." It generates numerous service programs- - such as Scholastic Honors Day, art workshops for park districts, service organizations, etc. . and it obtains art jurists for the Cooperative Extension Service of the College of Agriculture since it is directly associated with the state-wide Town and Country Art programs sponsored by the College of Agriculture. In cooperation with the Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs, the office directs the Allerton Federated Art Schools for gifted high school youth Adventures in the Arts'* for women, and the "Do It Now" program for men. It also conducts an art therapy program at the Bowen Center in Chicago. It sponsors traveling art exhibits and slide sets for use by schools, colleges, universities, art centers, art galleries, libraries, art leagues, women's clubs, community groups and others for a membership fee. There are 34 exhibits and 69 slide sets available on an annual or individual rental basis for a period of 10 weeks per school year. This resource is in cooperation with the College of Fine and Applied Arts, Krannert Art Museum and department of art and design. Director is Walter M. Johnson.
