OF I. MOTHERS ASSOCIATION was found I in 1923 to s e r v e the U n i v e r s i t y and its students. The a s s o c i a t i o n m a i n t a i n s a p e r s o n a l r e l a t i o n s h i p b e t w e e n U n i v e r s i t y and p a r e n t s as well as with all c i t i z e n s of the s t a t e . A d v i s e r s to the e x e c u t i v e b o a r d include 150 mothers, r e p r e s e n t i n g the It Illinois c o u n t i e s , who a s s i s t in the planning and i m p l e m e n t a tion of the a s s o c i a t i o n ' s p r o j e c t s and a c t i v i t i e s . Ongoing p r o j e c t s and a c t i v i t i e s include u n d e r g r a d u a t e s c h o l a r s h i p s , c o n t r i b u t i o n s to the Student Aid Fund, Book A w a r d s r e c o g n i z ing s u p e r i o r a c a d e m i c a c h i e v e m e n t of f i r s t - y e a r f r e s h m e n , a n n u a l a w a r d of a M e d a l l i o n of Honor to a p e r s o n who by e x a m p l e and s e r v i c e h a s e n r i c h e d the l i v e s of o t h e r s , and publication of a q u a r t e r l y n e w s l e t t e r , II1 i N o t e s , for m e m b e r s of the a s s o c i a t i o n . The g r o u p cos p o n s o r s a r e a and county m e e t i n g s with the Dads A s s o c i a t i o n and c o o p e r a t e s with the Summer Advance E n r o l l m e n t P r o g r a m in m e e t i n g with p a r e n t s d u r i n g t h e p a r e n t o r i e n t a t i o n s e s s i o n s . The a s s o c i a t i o n a l s o c o s p o n s o r s M o t h e r s Day w e e k e n d a c t i v i t i e s with m a n y student g r o u p s . M o t h e r s weekend will be A p r i l 19-21, 1974. STUDENT HOUSING is provided both p r i v a t e l y and by the U n i v e r s i t y . The Housing Division is in charge of all U n i v e r s i t y - o w n e d f a c i l i t i e s and a p p r o v e s m o s t o t h e r s i n g l e u n d e r g r a d uate student housing. V a r i o u s p r i v a t e h o m e s , p r i v a t e r e s i d e n c e h a l l s , a p a r t m e n t s and t r a i l e r s house a p p r o x i m a t e l y 16,500 single and m a r r i e d s t u d e n t s , both u n d e r g r a d u a t e and graduate 850 live with p a r e n t s or r e l a t i v e s , 900 c o m m u t e f r o m n e i g h b o r i n g c o m m u n i t i e s . The 52 u n d e r g r a d u a t e and 2 g r a d u a t e f r a t e r n i t i e s h o u s e 2,500 m e n the 25 s o r o r i t i e s , 1,100 women. University r e s i d e n c e h a l l s for s i n g l e u n d e r g r a d u a t e s and g r a d u a t e s p r o v i d e space for 5,527 men and 4,677 women. P e r m a n e n t U n i v e r s i t y housing p r o v i d e s a c c o m modations for 985 m a r r i e d s t u d e n t s . Other living a r r a n g e m e n t s of v a r i o u s types have been made by approximately 1,000 s t u d e n t s . The U n i v e r s i t y owns a n u m b e r of h o u s e s locally which a r e leased on a s h o r t - t e r m b a s i s to new staff m e m b e r s until they find o t h e r h o m e s in the community. VISITOR HOUSING is available in h o t e l s , m o t e l s and a few p r i v a t e h o m e s . Some U n i v e r sity housing is available for g r o u p s and s p e c i a l m e e t i n g s . The o w n e r s of t h e s e h o m e s have signed pledges a s s u r i n g the University that r a c e , religion or national origin will not be c o n s i d e r e d in renting overnight a c c o m m o d a t i o n s in t h e i r h o m e s to p e r s o n s utilizing this listing s e r v i c e .
