ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION, HOME ECONOMICS (13) A recommendation that the sum of $2100 be appropriated from the Reserve and Contingent Fund for expense and equipment i the Department of Home n Economics. REGARD TO CHAPTER HOUSES

(14) The following recommendation: To the Board of Trustees: During the last two years a tendency has appeared to erect fraternity houses about the campus at what seems to be an undue cost, making necessary a large membership, the payment of rents so heavy as to be a burden to the members of the organization, and sometimes additional contributions or dues, so that men of ordinary means are practically debarred from becoming members of these organizations. The erection of such nouses endangers the success of the chapters as useful and democratic auxiliaries to the educational purposes of the University. Moreover, the interior arrangements of some of the houses are not well suited to purposes of study, the study rooms being too few, and the facilities for social life too extensive. In view of this tendency the Council of Administration recommends to the Board of Trustees that in the future all fraternities or other Universtiy organizations which plan the building of chapter houses, or the occupying of chapter houses built for them, be notified that they are required to submit their house plans to
