FATIGUE PHENOMENA OF METALS, CONTRACT EXTENDED

(2) A statement that the General Electric Company recently offered the University $7,500, in addition to the $30,000 already contributed by the same Company, for a continuation of the investigation on the Fatigue Phenomena of Metals, to cover the following points: (1) The completion of the work now in progress on reversed bending stress superposed upon steady tension; and (2) tests on two non-ferrous metals, monel metal and aluminum-monel metal. Since this offer involved merely an extension of the existing agreement between the University of Illinois and the General Electric Company under the same conditions as to publication, availability of data to the public, advisory committee, and the like, I authorized the Comptroller to inform the General Electric Company that w e would accept the money in accordance with the terms of the present agreement. The Comptroller has done this, and has received acknowledgments from the General Electric Company, and also from the Engineering Foundation, as a result of which the $7,500 will be available. This report w a s received for record.
