work in the new hospitals and our research laboratories is fully established, i will t be necessary to relieve Professor Davis of his present duties. In the meantime, the suggestion is that he will take charge of the division and begin to organize it. Dean Eycleshymer recommends various positions, including that of Professor Petersen. now on our staff, several associate and assistant professors, and people of other grades, whose salaries will aggregate approximately $54,000. I therefore recommend: 1. That appropriations for the three great divisions indicated above, namely. preventive medicine, surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology, be made respectively as follows: $60,000, $50,000, and $20,000. 2. That Dr. D. J. Davis be made head of the division of preventive medicine. as Professor and Director of Research, so that he may go on to organize the divisions andfinalnominees for the necessary positions, he to continue for the present at the head of the Department of Pathology and Bacteriology in the College of Medicine until the organization is completed, and that his salary continue what i t is now—$7500. •••$* 3. That Professor W . F. Petersen be appointed Professor (General Medicine) in the division of Preventive Medicine at a salary of $5500 a year. O n motion of M r s . E v a n s , these recommendations were adopted. APPOINTMENT OF PROFESSOR J. E. SCHAEFER (5) A recommendation that Dr. J. E. Schacfer be appointed Associate Professor of Oral Surgery, in the College of Dentistry, for one year, beginning September 1. 1924, at a salary of five thousand dollars. O n motion of M r s . E v a n s , this appointment w a s m a d e .
