Professor White m a d e a statement concerning this matter. O n motion of M r . Trees, this recommendation was approved. A P P R O P R I A T I O N F O R PRINTING PRESIDENT'S R E P O R T (7) A request for an appropriation of $2500 or so much thereof as may be necessary from the Reserve and Contingent Fund for printing the annual report of the President, in an edition of not to exceed J 500 copies. O n motion of M r s . Blake, this appropriation w a s m a d e , b y the following vote: A y e , M r . Armstrong, M r . Blair, M r s . Blake, M r s . Busey, M r s . Evans, M r s . Grigsby, M r . Noble, M r . Small, M r . Trees; no, none; absent, M r . Herbert, M r . Trimble. A t this point, a recess was taken for luncheon which was served at the Executive Mansion. During the luncheon Judge C . H . Jenkins, Director of Public Welfare, w a s present and the matter of the possibility of finding m o n e y to insure the opening next October of the group of Chicago hospitals being constructed b y the Department and the University w a s discussed. Judge Jenkins suggested in the discussion that a committee be appointed to confer as to the m i n i m u m needed to open the hospitals. AFTERNOON SESSION, DECEMBER 3, 1923 The afternoon session of the meeting of December 3, 1923, was held at the Executive Mansion, in Springfield. The following members were present: President Noble, Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Trees. President Kinley was present, also Professor J. M . White, Supervising Architect, and Dr. John Dill Robertson of Chicago. MATTERS PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT KINLEY The Board resumed its consideration of matters presented b y the President of the University. COMMITTEE TO ASCERTAIN COST OF OPERATING HOSPITAL (8) A recommendation that President Noble, Dean Eycleshymer, and Professor H. B. Ward be appointed a committee, as requested by the Director of the Department of Public Welfare, to represent the University in conference with the Director of the Department of Public Welfare to ascertain the probable cost of operating the Chicago cooperative hospitals from October, 1924, until such time as the General Assembly may act in the matter. O n motion of M r . Blair, this recommendation was approved. JUILLIARD M U S I C A L F O U N D A T I O N S C H O L A R S H I P S (9) The following statement: The Juilliard Musical Foundation through its Secretary, Doctor Eugene A. Noble, has notified me that the University of Illinois is one of the institutions which has been selected to receive scholarships and fellowships in music under the Foundation. The University has received the sum of $800 which has been credited to the Juilliard Musical Foundation Scholarship Trust Fund for scholarship aid for the year 1923-24, and has been invited to nominate a recent graduate for the fellowship for graduate study in Music. Under the authority granted the President of the University by the Board, I have accepted the gift of the Juilliard Foundation and report the same for record.
