ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTOR IN PSYCHOLOGY (5) A report that by misunderstanding, a position requested by the Department of Psychology and approved by the Dean of the College was l f out of the Budget. et Inasmuch as there was to be no meeting of the Board until September, the President of the University authorized the Dean to fl the want with an instructorship il at a salary of $1800 for one year. O n motion of M r . A r m s t r o n g , this action w a s approved. BAKER PRIZE FUND (6) The following letter with accompanying documents has been received from Professor Baker, in accordance with his promise presented to the Board at the meeting of July 11. September 4, 1923 Dr. David Kinley, President of the University of Illinois Dear Sir: In accordance with m y promise of June 7 to make provision for two prizes for Civil Engineering Seniors, I herewith present to the University the following securities : Bonds No. K207 and K208 of the Whalen Paper and Pulp Co., each for $1,000, due in 1930, bearing 6 % interest, payable M a y 1 and N o vember 1, and having the November 1923 and subsequent coupons attached1 $2,000.00 Bonds No. C159, C310, and C314 of the Vancouver Lumber Co., due on M a y I, 1937, each for $100, bearing 7 % % interest, payable M a y 1 and November 1, and having the November 1923 and subsequent coupons attached1 300.00 I have from time to time given the Purchasing Agent checks for the following bills: Chicago Architectural Bronze Co., 4740 N . Clark St., Chicago, the bronze tablet 140.00 Rounds-Truman Co., 64 W . Randolph St., Chicago, engraving copper plate and printing 30 copies of the certificate on bond paper 65.75 B. A. Strauch, 629 S. Wright St., Champaign, framing a copy of the certificate ••••: .•.• • . 2-3° University Carpenter Shop, for labor and material in installing the tablet and the framed certificate . ' 2.81 Expressage on tablet and certificate 1.28 Total , $2,512.14 I desire that the income of the remainder of said bonds shall be used to pay: (1) afirstprize of $75 and a second prize of $25 to the persons named by the Dean and Heads of Departments of the College of Engineering in accordance with m y letter submitted herewith: (2) to purchase and place, annually upon the tablet a bronze plate bearing the names of the successive winners of the prizes; and (3) to insert the name of the winner of thefirstprize on the certificate referred to above! Apparently the second item above will be about $5.50 per annum and the third about $1. Therefore the total annual charge against the fund will probably be $106.50. Respectfully submitted, Ira O.
