M A T T E R S P R E S E N T E D BY PRESIDENT KINLEY T h e Board considered the following matters presented by the President of the University. AGE OF ADMISSION (1) A recommendation that the Council of Administration be given authority in the administration of the rule concerning age for admission to admit on petition a student over 15 who meets the requirements for admission and who is to reside when he enters the University with his parents or guardians, or with some one chosen by them. O n motion of M r . Trimble, this recommendation w a s approved. CURRICULUM IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING (2) A recommendation from the University Senate that the curriculum in chemical engineering be modified to provide certain courses in mechanical engineering as prescribed subjects in the third and fourth years. These changes may be summarized as follows: 1. That M.E. 2 (steam engineering), three hours, and M.E. 61 (power measurement), two hours, be required in the third and fourth years respectively. 2'. That no alternative be allowed for Chemistry 61 (industrial Chemistry laboratory), three hours. 3. That because of our crowding in Chemistry 69 (assaying), Chemistry 78 (Metallography) be accepted as a substitute, for a limited number of students. 4. That in order to clarify the matter of registrations in Chemistry 11 (thesis), the present statement, "subject to the approval of the departmental committee on undergraduate theses," be changed to read: "Ten hours of thesis credit are required for graduation in chemistry and nine hours for graduation in chemical engineering, subject to the provision that a partial substitution of chemical electives in special cases may be granted on recommendation of the department. In no case may the total thesis credit in either curriculum be reduced below a minimum offivehours." O n motion of M r s . Evans, these changes were approved. CURRICULA IN MUSIC (3) A recommendation of the University Senate that the following changes in the curricula in Music be approved: Changes in Instrumental Major (Piano, Organ, or Violin) I. That thefirstyear foreign language requirement be deferred until the second year, and be restricted to French or German. 2. That the English requirement be made a four-hour course for one year in English or American Literature, instead of one year of English Literature as formerly. 3. That Educational Psychology (3 hrs.) and Technic of Teaching (3 hrs.) be dropped from the curriculum. 4. That the lessons in the minor practical subject in music be made twenty minutes in length, meeting twice each week, instead of thirty minutes once a week. Credit to be three hours, instead of two hours. 5. That an elective be substituted for the three-hour course in Shakespeare now required for the senior year. 6. That the present thesis requirement be made a senior elective with one hour of credit. 7. That a one-hour two-semester course in rudimentary theory be added to the first year.
