O n motion of Mrs. Busey, this authority was granted. LAND IN USE BY DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE (10) A r p r from Dean Mumford that he has given permission t the departeot o ment of horticulture to use ten acres of land rented and paid for by the Illinois Canners' Association for sweet corn investigations. The expenses of cultivation of this tract are included in the budget recently approved for the department of horticulture for the remainder of the currentfiscalyear (page 159). This report w a s received for record.

ABSENCE OF PROFESSOR LOHMANN

(11) A recommendation from Professor Blair, approved by Dean Mumford, that Mr. Karl B. Lohmann, Assistant Professor of Landscape Gardening, be granted permission to be absent from the University from June 5 to September 1, 1923, for the purpose of studying gardens, estates, and cities in Great Britain. I recommend the approval of this recommendation. O n motion of M r s . Grigs by, this r e c o m m e n d a t i o n w a s approved. ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION F O R A N N U A L REGISTER (12) The appropriation made in the budget of M a y 26, 1922, for publishing the Annual Register was #10,000. The cost of the volume for the current year has run to $10,353.59. O n the other hand, there is an unexpended balance of $1,473 in, the appropriation of $4000 for publishing the Announcement of Courses. I recommend that #353-59 be transferred from the balance in the appropriation for the Announcement of Courses to the appropriation for the Annual Register to cover the deficit. O n motion of M r s . E v a n s , this transfer w a s authorized. A t this point, M r . Blair took his place with the Board.

Mckinley hospital fund

(13) A suggestion from the Comptroller that the Board adopt the following resolution supplementary to the action taken at the meeting of April 11, 1923 (page 167), to provide for a satisfactory transfer of the securities there referred to: RESOLUTION The Comptroller having been authorized and directed to dispose of four hundred (400) shares of Illinois Traction Company C o m m o n stock, Fifteen Thousand Dollars (#15,000) principal amount Atchison Railway Light & Power Company, and Fifteen Thousand Dollars (#15,000) principal Bloomington & Normal Railway & Light Company, bonds, pursuant to negotiation, and replacement of said securities with cash aggregating Eighty Thousand Dollars ($80,000); N o w , Therefore, Lloyd Morey, Comptroller of the University of Illinois, and of this Board of Trustees, is hereby authorized to endorse the certificates for said four hundred (400) shares of Illinois Traction Company common stock for and on behalf of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, and full faith and credit shall be given to such endorsement so made by said Lloyd Morey, Comptroller. I recommend the adoption of the foregoing resolution. O n motion of M r . A r m s t r o n g this resolution w a s adopted. (14) A report from the Comptroller that he now has on hand over #40,000 in the McKinley Hospital Fund, and that through the maturing of some of the original securities, as well as some of the later investments, he will shortly have an additional #80,000. I recommend that the Comptroller be directed to invest this money under the direction of the Finance Committee of the Board. This r e c o m m e n d a t i o n w a s approved.
