BOARD OF TRUSTEES

TYPEWRITER FOR PRESIDENT NOBLE O n motion of Mr. Trimble, the Comptroller was instructed to purchase a typewriter for the use of the President of the Board. At this point, at I p. m. a recess was taken. AFTERNOON SESSION, APRIL n, 1923 W h e n the Board convened for the afternoon session of April 11, 1923, the same persons were present as during the morning session; also, during parts of the afternoon, Professor G. A. Goodenough, Professor J. M . White, Mr. John Holabird, and Mr. John W . Root. MUTUAL BENEFIT ASSOCIATION Mr. Trimble and Professor Goodenough made statements concerning the Mutual Benefit Association. On motion of Mr. Armstrong, action was deferred until the next meeting. LIBRARY PLANS Mr. Holabird] and]Mr. Root presented sketches for the new Library building, and retired. After f l discussion, on motion of Mr. Trees, ul the following resolution was adopted: Whereas, The designs submitted by Holabird and Roche for the facade of the Library have not been satisfactory, and since i i t s the unanimous feeling of the members of the Board of Trustees that satisfactory progress has not been made in restudying the design, be i t Resolved, That the Board instruct the President of the Board to confer with Holabird and Roche, to explain the situation to them and obtain their reaction under the circumstances, and that, i Holaf bird and Roche volunteer to withdraw, the contract be terminated. On motion of Mr. Armstrong, the Board adjourned to meet at the Blackstone Hotel, in Chicago, at 10:30 a. m. on Thursday, April 12, 1923. ADJOURNED SESSION OF APRIL 12, 1923 W h e n the Board convened at 10:30 a. m. on Thursday, April 12, 1923, pursuant to adjournment, the following members were present: President Noble, Mr. Armstrong, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Herbert, Mr. Trees. President Kinley was present. CONTRACT WITH HOLABIRD AND ROCHE President Noble reported on his interview with Holabird and Roche, Architects, to the effect that the architects were not willing to terminate the contract on their own initiative, but that in case the University wished to avail itself of i s right to terminate the contract, t the architects would not interpose any objections.
