M E E T I N G O F MAY 21, 1901.

May 15, 1901, President Smith issued a call for a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois to be held in the Trustees' Room, Library Building, Urbana, Illinois, at 9 o'clock a. m,, May 21, 1901, to transact such business as might be duly presented and to attend the dedication of the Agricultural Buildings. The members present at the meeting were Messrs. Bayliss, Bullard, Hatch, McKay, McLean, Nightingale and Smith, and Mrs. Carriel, Mrs. Abbott, Mrs. Alexander; absent, Governor Yates and Mr. Conrad. President Draper was present.

PURCHASE OF CHASE PBOPERY.

On motion of Mr. Bullard, it was voted to accept a contract presented by President Draper for the purchase of the "Chase property" lving south of Springfield avenue and west of Burrill avenue, for the" sum of $8,500.00. The President of the Board was authorized to sign the contract and $500.00 was appropriated for the first payment thereon. On motion of Mr. Hatch the following resolution was adopted: Besolved, That the Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois is hereby authorized to receive and receipt for all moneys, and to endorse all orders, drafts, and checks due and payable to the said Board of Trustees, or to the said University of Illinois, and especially all drafts drawn by the Treasurer of the United States, payable to the said Board of Trustees, or to the said University of Illinois, on account of the Agricultural Experiment Station of said University. A letter from Mr. Hess was referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds. I t was ordered that in all contracts which the University should make for buildings, a stipulation should be inserted that no work should be done thereon on Sunday. The matter of settling with Mr. J. A. Eeeves for hauling coal for the University during the year was referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds with power to act. Mr. Smith being obliged to withdraw asked Mr. Bayliss to take the chair.
