M E E T I N G OP OCTOBER 26, 1901.

The following call for a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was issued Oct. 21, 1901: "Upon the call of the President, Mr. T. J. Smith, there will be a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois in the Trustees' Eoom, Library Building, Urbana, Illinois, at 1:00 o'clock p. m., Saturday, Oct. 28, 1901, to consider the question of payment for the pavement of Wright street." When the Board was called to order the following members were present: Messrs. Bullard, Hatch, McKay, Nightingale, and Smith and Mrs. Abbott and Mrs. Alexander. Absent, Governor Yates and Messrs. Bayliss, Conrad, and McLean and Mrs, Carriel. President Draper was absent. The following resolution was adopted on motion of Mrs. Alexander, the vote standing: Yeas—Messrs. Bullard, Hatch, McKay, Nightingale, and Smith and Mrs. Abbott and Mrs. Alexander; nays—none; absent, Governor ^ a t e s and Messrs. Bayliss, Conrad, and" McLean and Mrs. Carriel:

WHEREAS, Some doubt exists as to the legality of the proceedings had to pave Wright street in the City of Champaign, and WHEREAS, Work has been well advanced in the construction of said pavement, and WHEREAS, Some question has been raised as to the liability of the University of Illinois to pay the benefits assessed against the said University and its property, therefore Besolved, By the Board of Trustees that it ratifies and confirms every step and action taken to pave said street, including the legal sufficiency of the petition, the action of the Board of Local Improvements, the passage of the ordinance by the said city to pave said street, and the action and judgment of the county court on said ordinance and petition to pave the said street, and also approves of the amount of the assessment of benefits to the University and its property; and, further Besolved, That the Business Manager be, and he is hereby, directed to pay three installments of the assessment as soon as the said city certifies that the contractor has completed the work according to the plans and specifications, and the remainder as fast as the installments are due annually.

The Board adjourned.
