Central Campus Parking Garages

Two parking garages, at John & Sixth and Daniel & Fifth, were approved for construction by the University in September 1968. A third garage, at Sixth and Daniels, was originally to join the first two at a later date, after the church which occupied the site was razed, [1] but today the site is occupied by another church, built in 1987. [2]

The first two buildings provided 651 spaces, while the third was to add 272 spaces. Each of the buildings was to have 16 levels, and the three were to "interlock to provide movement throughout the structure from or to any entrance or exit". [3]

The total cost of the three buildings was $3M, with Loebl, Schlossman, Bennett and Dart designing the structures, and DeLeuw, Cather, and Co. handling the engineering aspects of the project. [4]
