Bevier Hall

The first building on campus named Bevier Hall was actually the current English Building, renamed April 17, 1947 in honor of Isabel Bevier, the Director of the Department of Home Economics from 1900 to 1912. [1] The Department of Home Economics continued to grow, however, and in 1955 [2] construction began on a new building, and on April 4, 1957, the new Bevier Hall was dedicated together with the Child Development Laboratory, [3] whose names had been approved by the Board of Trustees on May 22, 1956. [4] Designed Naess and Murphy, the building was constructed by Felmley-Dickerson Co. [5]

The first two floors were split between the Division of Home Management and the Division of Textile Clothing, while the third floor housed a dining room with "wainscot and cabinets in birch and another with rich cherry cabinetry and woodwork [giving] home economics students an opportunity to practice in meal service and experience in using a variety of items for table settings".
